Android, the mostly used Operating System in smartphones has been drastically increasing all over the globe.
The latest version of Android, KitKat (4.4) is now running on 21% of Android devices. Not only the improved performance, bug fixes and other features are responsible for the growth of KitKat but also the 'Low hardware' requirements have attracted many Android OEMs to update their phones to the latest version of Android. Even old devices are now able to run KitKat by Custom roms being released by developers which plays a major role in the growth of Kitkat.
Even though growth of KitKat is increasing, Jellybean (4.1, 4.2, 4.3) still holds the overall share of 50%, with the decrease of IceCreamSandwich (4.0) to 10.6% while older versions 'Froyo (2.2)', 'Gingerbread (2.3)' are still being used by older devices and still contributes a little share among the rest.
The rest of even older version of Android, naming, Eclair, Donut and Cupcake holds only 0.1% of overall share as per mentioned by Google.
With the new Android devices coming fast, it'll be interesting to see how these figures change and what change it will make to the older versions of Android specially after the launch of Android 'L' which is about to knock doors in a very short time.
